Government of Ontario
1972
The trillium has been Ontario's official flower since 1937. This version of the symbol, which I designed in 1972, represented the province for over 35 years. The petals are constructed on a tight geometric grid and the outer shape is a super-ellipse – the midpoint between a circle and a square.
Varity Corporation
1986
Varity Corporation was created from the remains of Massey-Ferguson Limited, a farm equipment company headquartered in Toronto, Ontario. The new name and identity were derived from one of its former subsiduaries, Verity Plow. The "e" was changed to "a" to create a unique and registerable brand. Coincidently, the letters "VAR" matched the initials of its chairman, Victor A. Rice.
Real Estate Council of Ontario

The Real Estate Council of Ontario (RECO) is a self-managed, not-for-profit corporation, responsible for regulating the real estate industry on behalf of the provincial government and protecting the public interest through a fair, safe and informed marketplace.
OLA Water System
1997
The OLA Drinking Water System was designed for use in developing countries. The system includes water filtration and packaging equipment as well as hand carts for neighbourhood delivery. The prototype plant was set up in Port au Prince, Haiti. The OLA name was created to resonate in Spanish (hola: a friendly greeting) and French (Eau la: sounding like "water there").
Ontario Motor Vehicles Industry Council

OMVIC is the government-appointed regulator of motor vehicle sales in the province. Its mandate is to maintain a fair, safe and informed marketplace by protecting the rights of consumers, enhancing industry professionalism and ensuring fair, honest and open competition for registered motor vehicle dealers.2

Tony Snyder is a full-time secondary school teacher and weekend musician who builds high-quality musical instruments including classical guitars and violins.2

This manufacturer and supplier of public area furniture uses concrete as a major component in its product line. The sample box was designed and crafted by Paul Epp, an industrial designer and one of the company's founders.

OREA is a provincial organization representing more than 52,000 real estate professionals and 42 real estate boards. It is also designated as the provider of real estate education for the province through the OREA Real Estate College – a division of OREA.

These pictographs were developed as a visual identifier for postal services provided under licence in convenience stores and other retail outlets. They represent (clockwise) stamps, letter drop, parcels and fax or electronic media.
Developing Countries Farm Radio Network

DCFRN is a media group founded in 1979 to support broadcasters in developing countries to strengthen small-scale farming and rural communities. Scripts are sent free of charge, in English and French, to partners around the world, where they are adapted to local conditions, translated into hundreds of languages, and broadcast to a potential audience of several hundred million people.

Incognito is a marketing research organization that employs mystery shoppers to measure the quality of retail services. Mystery shoppers pose as customers – purchase products, ask questions or register complaints – and then provide detailed reports or feedback about their experiences.

Sail Parry Sound

This small, but dedicated, non-profit sailing club on the shores of Lake Huron is dedicated to the Sound's sailing heritage by inviting the world's sailors to compete in local regattas. The club also promotes the sport by offering sail training for youth, seniors and persons with disabilities.
Mennonite Church USA

Mennonites are a Christian faith group that began in Europe in the 16th century. Currently there are over 1.75 million members worldwide. Mennonite beliefs and practices emphasize faithfulness, adult baptism and peacemaking. Their name was derived from Menno Simons, an early Anabaptist leader.
Associated Mennonite Biblical Seminary

AMBS is is an accredited Christian seminary in Elkhart, Indiana affiliated with the Mennonite Church. The symbol finds its origins in the Mennonite Anabaptist theology of the "priesthood of believers" and the notion that the church is a "people of the book". The three figures emerge from the open book (scriptures) as they proclaim in unison.

This company provides a method for recovering and recycling production waste materials such as metal chips, turnings and filings. The end product is a puck-shaped briquet that can be reused as feedstock in the casting process.

This clinically-proven regime slows the progression of PD symptoms and is more effective than traditional drug treatments. It will be provided by Certified Instructors through fitness clubs and licensed physiotherapy clinics.

Mensura is a consulting firm engaged in management process assessment and measurement. Some of the methods used are daily metrics, management-by-measurement, site assessments, communications ladders and establishing goals. It focuses on organizational structure and sustainable growth.

Zenn is Canada's contribution to the brave new world of electric vehicles. I was surprised to see that their logo didn't reflect their leading edge technology. So I emailed a presentation to the CEO, Ian Clifford, outlining what I thought it should look like. Never heard back from him.
St. Jacobs Brand Proposal
2002
This quaint little village north of Waterloo, Ontario has become an international tourist attraction. It features local culture – particularly the Mennonite way of life – as well as events, theatre, historic buildings and specialty shops. I was asked to create an image that could be used to identify and promote the area. It was also to be featured on a line of branded merchandise. The proposal was not implemented.
